I Was Nominated For The Sunshine Blogger Award?
Where does this go in my classification system? I have no clue.
Well, I definitely hadn’t planned on writing a Wednesday post this week, but Carson nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award and here we are. Just to clarify, I am still posting on Friday (actually, it’s the third post on my Narniad/Blue Flower series), so this is an extra, bonus post this week!
I actually have no idea what the Sunshine Blogger Award is, but I’m going to jump on for fun, and hope I don’t break any rules. I gave up looking for the origin after clicking through about twenty people’s blogs on three different websites that I’d never heard of, but somehow or other it filtered down to Carson Wagner’s blog, The Compass, on Substack. Thank you for the nomination,

The Guy Who Nominated Me
The Questions For Me
What inspired you to start a blog? Or, if that’s too ambiguous, what is the story behind how you started it?
Once, I was googling random people’s names (as we do (what? No one else does that?)), and one of them (and I’m not saying who!) pops up connected to Substack! Of course, because I’m not a stalker or anything, I check it out, and somehow that ended up with me having a Substack account. Then, because I love bombarding other people with my writing, I started a blog. It started with a couple random posts (which have since been unpublished and some republished on Ink Blots) and then an intro post. From there, Ink Blots has grown. In the past couple months, I even started another publication, The Elephant Under The Bridge, with some other teens! What is the most significant experience (good, bad, or neutral) that you’ve ever had? And how did that impact your life?
Thus far? I would say when my youngest sister had kidney failure and the enormous trials and pain that followed, for her and for our whole family. It really helps you look at how life is precious and easily damaged, and the million ways that God blesses us everyday and we don’t even notice until it’s taken away. What is/are your favorite Bible verse/passage(s), and why?
I don’t know a specific verse as my favorite one, but my favorite books are probably Proverbs and Psalms. They’re full of wisdom that’s easily understandable and applied. Also, many of the Psalms have been set to music! What’s a dream you’ve always had but haven’t pursued yet? What’s holding you back?
So, I’ve always wanted to be a wife and mom. What’s holding me back? Nothing, really, except…Yeah… it’s a man’s duty to pursue a woman, not the other way around, and when there ain’t any men, there ain’t any prospects either.
What’s the wildest idea you’ve ever had that you’d love to turn into reality someday?
This idea was born one day in Spanish class a couple years ago! I would love to start a bookshop of my own. I want to spread my love of good books—not just books, but good books, because there is so much trashy literature today. Classics are disregarded and good literature is buried under a mountain of bad. I hope to somewhat change that!If you could completely redesign one aspect of how the world works, what would you change and how?
I would remove Sin. But the good news is that I don’t even have to! It’s already been done! Other than that? Well, I’m tired of Swifties, but not so tired as to erase them off the face of the earth… well, maybe I am.What is/are your favorite quote(s)? Why?
That’s a hard one! There are so many good ones.
- The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him. —G.K. Chesterton
- I do not love the sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for its glory. I love only that which they defend. —J.R.R. Tolkien
- Run faithfully to the end, and like all good men, you will die of having lived. —N.D. Wilson
There are others, but those, somehow, strike straight to my soul, stirring, perhaps, the warrior inside the woman who will wield, perhaps, a skillet or a shovel, but if she wields a sword, harm might come to the wrong people… because she is not skillful in the area of weaponry.1What would be the language you would most like to learn/enjoy learning currently, and why?
I’m currently taking a gap year, but I’m looking forward to learning Latin at New Saint Andrews College this fall! (Actually, I’ve already learned some, but that was a long time ago, and I’ve forgotten a good deal!). I love hearing my peers talking in this ancient language, it’s quite helpful to interpret modern day languages, and it is incredibly interesting to be able to see the way languages evolved from this language, which is now dead (except for in the Vatican, and a certain small town in Idaho). What are your top five favorite books? What are your top five favorite movies? Why?
It’s awful when people ask me to pick my top favorite books, but here goes!
I’ve really been enjoying N.D. Wilson’s books lately (does that count as one? I’m going to say it does). He’s written three different series: The Hundred Cupboards, The Ashtown Burials, and The Outlaws of Time, along with a stand-alone, Leepike Ridge. The Hundred Cupboards series by N.D. Wilson, consisting of Hundred Cupboards, Dandelion Fire, and The Chestnut King. Lord of the Rings (anything Tolkien, actually) is always going to rank at the top for me.
I’ll add C.S. Lewis (anything) as number three, and Chesterton as four.
Number five I will give to the Little Women series, which I’ve been planning to reread.
This is not in any order of preference, as I’d probably rank Tolkien at the top, but only as it came to my mind. And why? These are books I’ve read for a long time and are very dear to my heart, foundational to my personality and faith, I might add.
And top five movies?
Lord of the Rings, absolutely.
The Emperor’s New Groove/Robin Hood in the animation/Disney category.
I love The Sound of Music/Seven Brides for Seven Brothers for musicals.
Ben-Hur
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe.
Why? Those are very nostalgic movies that definitely shaped my childhood! I am quite fond of them—even if I can’t quite explain wWhere do you see yourself in ten years?
Hopefully happily married with a gaggle of children, but if God sees otherwise, I would like to teach or (perhaps) start a bookstore… when pigs fly! What is a question you would want other people to ask you most? What is your answer?
Actually, I’m not sure why, but I usually hate when people ask me personal questions. There’s a few people I don’t mind doing that, but when total strangers, or even people I’ve known for a while, do that… I go into introvert mode… I usually am more comfortable with asking other people questions for some reason.
Actually, if you’re my friend in real life I wouldn’t mind hanging out more! Totally ask me that! And my answer will be yes.
My Nominees
You guys are awesome, but here I’m going to nominate six people whose blogs I love reading!
Four Special Weirdos by Carson, Margot, Gloria, and Jaxton! It’s absolutely hilarious!
My Miscellany by Briar Albaugh! Definitely one of my favorite publications, Briar is very fun and always keeps a cheerful outlook on life, happy-go-luckily sharing what she learns every day.
We The Writers by Abigail Rhoeas. She’s quite fun and I work with her at The Elephant Under The Bridge.
Or There And Back Again by Austin Anderson. His writing appeals to me and I’ve definitely enjoyed his book reviews!
Fable & Verse by Margot Mooring. She writes beautiful, poetic, aesthetic pieces that you can see are well-thought-out and thoughtful.
Understanding Reformed Christianity by TheReformedCalvinist, which is an interesting, truthful, and confrontational publication. He’s also been a pleasure to work with at The Elephant Under The Bridge.
The Questions From Me
I have to provide eleven questions for the people I’m nominating, and here they are!
What’s the story behind your publication (the inspiration)?
What’s your favorite thing to write about, and why?
If you could only read three authors (besides the Bible) for the rest of your life, who would they be? Why?
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
What are your favorite quotes? Why?
What is your favorite book of the Bible, and why?
If you got in a fight (assume current levels of capability) would you prefer to have a sword, a shovel, or a skillet as a weapon? Why?
Who is your personal favorite substacker (i.e. you read everything they write, etc.)? Why?
What is the song that takes you back to your childhood? Drop the link!
Do you prefer reading or listening to audiobooks? Why?
If you were to change one thing about your life, what would it be? Why?
Well, that’s all folks! I definitely didn’t expect to be posting on Wednesday this week, but here we are! Bye!
Huh? What? I don’t know what I was doing here…
Wow, thanks for the nomination, Glori! Keep writing, it's been fun to read :)
Well this is cool! I was wondering what the Sunshine Blogger was too. Question tho, who are the rest of the eleven you're nominating?(i could be wrong) I only counted 9 if you count the first publication as 4 people. Can't wait to see what they write considering i read of most of them too haha.
